World War 2

During World War 2 many privations were felt on the Home Front. The Home Guard were well-trained to defend Britain. Rationing was a way of life for the British. The blitz was affecting many major cities and more besides. Gas Masks had to be carried everywhere at all times. Winston Churchill (seen above in a Land Rover) was a familiar figure from posters and also touring the bombed areas, with hhis trademark V sign (V for victory) and his fat cigar. Monty can be seen in this photo.
