Cusworth Hall is a fine example of an 18th century house set in a fine parkland.
It has an excellent view across to Doncaster. The there is fishing lake at the
bottom of the hill. Cusworth Hall is a popular venue for special events such as
egg rolling at Easter time and musical events at Christmas. It was lived
in by the Battie-Wrightson family for many years, and there is a display about
the family. The museum is also known as 'The Museum of South Yorkshire Life'.
The rooms contain varied displays such as trains and transport, Women at Work,
Toys and Children's Games, Coal Mining, Farming and Agriculture, Clothes and
Costumes, Wheelwrights and Blacksmiths, Entertainment, Photography, and
Electronic Recording. In the past there has been a period bathroom and a
beehive. The museum is just a few minutes from the A1 and can be reached easily
from junctions 36 or 37
At the present time Cusworth hall is undergoing extensive
renovations, having recently been awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The work will take several years to complete.
